BP make things right

Video #1 Emeril Lagasse

Propaganda technique- Testimonial, hes not a scientist and hes doesn't know if BP has been cleaning up the gulf to the full extent that they need to.

LF- Argumentum ad ignorantiam- because we don't know what BP is doing to clean up the gulf Emeril Lagasse could be telling us anything.

Because the person trying to convince us has no knowledge of BP's actions in the gulf so he can't accurately describe the situation.

Video #2 Olympic athletes

Propaganda technique- Transfer because BP is show as being behind american athletes so they must be behind america. Also the BP logo is displayed right next to the american logo in both ads which supports the idea that they are with america.

LF- non sequitur- just because olympic athletes work hard to overcome challenges doesn't mean that BP is a morally good company for supporting US olympic athletes.

Video #3 America

Propaganda technique- Plain Folk- they shows average day americans that work for BP so that we know that BP supports america.

LF- Half truths- they don't tell you about all the bad things that came from the largest natural disaster in american history.

Video #4- Tony Heyward

Propaganda technique- Card Stacking- By leaving out all the negative facts and focusing on what BP is doing to help the Gulf area BP gives a greater sense of effort which is aimed at making america like them again.

LF- Argumentum ad ignorantiam- because we don't know the facts they are able to stack the deck and make it seem like they are doing more help than harm

Video #5-Gulf tourism

Propaganda- Glittering Generalities- By using words like best, good, and great BP is able to say that the gulf is better than before without specifying what they did to help clean up.

LF- Half truths- Because they just tell us the good things we don't really know what bad happened

  1. Jonathon,
Welcome to the discussion! Excellent job determining the PTs and LFs, and an even better job with the analyses. You used half truths and ad ignorantiam twice. Also, five points were deducted for turning in late.
