Shame

Have you ever wished that you could go back in time just to change something? If you have you are not alone, because everybody has those wishes. A song by The Avett Brothers called Shame show their thoughts and feelings of someone who wishes he/she could change the past. In the song the singer is remorseful, and disgusted by his former actions. We as the audience can see this tone more clearly through key words like blame, strutting, and guilt seen throughout the song. These three words very clearly cement the fact that he feels remorseful and disgusted by his actions, and he even says " Please make it stop" which indicates he feels shame towards a specific person. In the end The Avett Brothers use several key words through out the song  Shame  to create a specific tone and subject.

Black Bird

Not literal things

1 The black bird
2 Singing in the dead of night
3 waiting for his moment to arise to be free

Focus/ Purpose of the song

To bring attention to the civil rights movements happening around this time. The black bird represents oppressed people speaking out.

The Jubilee Project 9/19/12

  • Purpose- To raise awareness that deaf people aren't much different from anyone else.
  • Effectiveness- On one side it was well thought out, it wasn't confusing, and its message was clear by the end of the story, but to me the plot was a little unrealistic.
  • In the end my out take on it was that it was a fairly effective way to make their point

The singer solution to world poverty and the pinch of poverty

The singer solution to world poverty

  •    S- The moral dilemma of deciding whether to donate money to help impoverished people or to keep the money and use it for other things.
  •   N- The narrator clearly is biased towards getting people to donate money in order to help poor people. This most likely comes from some past issue of his or maybe he has been morally obligated to advocate for people to help the less fortunate.
  •  A- It can be guessed that his target audience is wealthy or middle class Americans who are more likely to feel sympathetic for the impoverished children of the world.
  •  P- To convince readers that a small amount of money makes a difference in helping enhance the lives of poor people.

The pinch of poverty

  • S- The effects poverty has on a family
  • N- A little biased toward poverty being negative since he paints with dark colors and paints sad expressions on the family's faces.
  • A- Sympathetic art viewers, maybe even rich art gallery patrons.
  • P- To persuade viewers to help those in poverty. He achieves this by painting the girl almost stepping out of the painting trying to sell you flowers.
